This year’s 2020 Presidential Election provided our YKOM scholars a rich, real life learning experience in citizenship, the voting process, political platforms and the tools of argumentation. Our Grade Seven and Eight students took a deep dive into the election process and discovered how they can positively engage in civil discourse through our YKOM Election Debate.

Debate preparation allowed for thoughtful, productive, reasoned and lively study in the skill of argumentation. Upon researching political platforms, scholars were placed on teams and given roles for engagement in a formal mock debate. This platform provided an outstanding vehicle to apply and demonstrate learning.
